Did you know that November is Healthy Skin Month? Your skin is your body’s largest organ and it is so important to take good care of it. Here at the Plastic Surgery Center and Sycamore Medi Spa, our physicians and aestheticians are passionate about skin health and educating patients about this topic.
Here are some tips and tricks to help you live your healthiest skin life!
- Protect your skin from the sun. This one may seem obvious, but we can’t stress it enough. It’s vital to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays and incorporate a sunscreen into your daily skincare routine.
-
- Drink plenty of water. Hydrated skin is healthy skin! When you are dehydrated, your skin looks duller and your lines and wrinkles may appear deeper. Drinking at least eight glasses of water a day will improve elasticity and keep your skin looking plump.
-
- Check your skin frequently. Take notice and become familiar with your spots and freckles to prevent skin cancer. Was that beauty mark smaller before? If there are any indications of changing or growing moles, it is time to see a dermatologist. We recommend going for annual body scans with a board-certified dermatologist as a best practice.
-
- Use a cleanser and moisturizer that work best for your skin type. It’s important to choose a cleanser and moisturizer that work for your specific skin type. If you’re unsure of your skin type, we recommend visiting an aesthetician like those at our Sycamore Medi Spa, who offer skincare consultations. They will be able to give you recommendations and suggest facials and products that will be well suited to your skin.
-
- Exfoliate! Exfoliating 1-2 times per week is a great way to resurface the skin and minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines. A physical scrub works to remove dead skin cells and smooths the skin’s surface.
-
- Adjust your skincare according to the season. The changing seasons may bring changes to your skin! For example, you likely will need a heavier moisturizer in the winter months when your skin tends to be dryer. “Seasonal changes can disrupt the skin’s moisture barrier. Colder weather comes with lower humidity levels that result in dry air that draws moisture away from the skin.”
Says Donna Battisti, our lead aesthetician, “My favorite winter treatment is the SaltFacial, which will exfoliate with natural sea salt for healthier, brighter, hydrated skin! Sea salt hydrates and nurtures your skin at a cellular level with no down time. Your skin will look refreshed, hydrated, and softer immediately after treatment!”
